HOMEROOM

HOMEROOM is a media-focused platform for young people of Asian descent to creatively express ideas and collaborate in art, design, community organizing, and social advocacy. The organization seeks to foster a space to learn and grow together as a community and empower artists and advocates through intersectional representation and visibility. As the current President and previous Director of Design, I have been able to spearhead the HOMEROOM rebrand and website revamp, as well as create social media posts, merch designs, magazine spreads an direction.

Website Revamp

One of the key projects I've undertaken is the overhaul and ongoing management of HOMEROOM's website/blog. Initiated in Winter 2023, I spearheaded a complete redesign to align with HOMEROOM's fresh brand identity, a task I've since continued through regular updates and maintenance. The revamped website embodies the vibrant, playful, and experimental essence synonymous with HOMEROOM. My primary aim was to create a platform that not only showcases the outstanding contributions of our editorial team but also encapsulates the joyful and lighthearted spirit inherent in our club.

Branding

After a year of inactivity, the HOMEROOM officers aimed to kick off the 2022-2023 year on a strong note. Keeping this goal in mind, I revamped the brand logo and introduced new brand colors and typography to reflect the whimsical and playful essence of HOMEROOM.

Serving as a safe space for individuals of Asian descent to create, experiment, and learn, HOMEROOM prioritizes inclusivity and innovation. Hence, I ensured that our branding portrayed HOMEROOM as a place unafraid to embrace risks and possess a hint of self-awareness.

Issue 5

HOMEROOM’s final project of the year was the fifth annual issue of the magazine, titled, “PLAY!” Centered around coming of age and nostalgia, PLAY! Contained over 90 pages of content, including community art submissions, personal essays, and more. Over the course of 4 months, I co-lead the magazine design team. We met every week to brainstorm ideas, align aesthetics, and give feedback. My goal was to nurture individual creativity, and create a space where designers could feel free to experiment and have fun with their work. In May 2023, HOMEROOM hosted a magazine launch party to celebrate and highlight the work of everybody involved.

I want to personally say how thankful I am to everybody that contributed, and how proud I am of the final product our group efforts created.
