My capstone, Sinawali, is a look into the history, impact, and aesthetics of Filipino Martial Arts. I was first exposed to Filipino Martial Arts as a child - I remember watching my dad practice Kali in the garage, dual wielding sticks akin to a Power Ranger or Nightwing, and just thinking that he was a real life superhero. Unfortunately, not everybody has had this experience and Filipino Martial Arts remains as a relatively unknown practice, even amongst Filipinos. Hopefully with my capstone, I can highlight Filipino Martial Arts, bringing in that same sense of awe I felt when first exposed to the practice as a child.
